When Liverpool plays Manchester United on Sunday, they will be trying to get revenge for their loss in the FA Cup quarterfinals.
In their 4-3 loss to Chelsea on Thursday night, Manchester United suffered injuries to both Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane, setting them up for a defensive nightmare against Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.
At the end of the first half, Varane was substituted with Evans, who was replaced 20 minutes later after taking a knock. There are currently just two healthy center backs that Erik ten Hag can choose from for the Red Devils because Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof are both out for another month.
Ten Hag’s main choices in this area are Harry Maguire and Willy Kambwala, an academy prospect, thus Liverpool has every reason to use an attacking strategy this weekend at Old Trafford. After Thursday’s wild defeat at Chelsea, Ten Hag provided updates on Evans and Varane, acknowledging that he didn’t know how serious either player’s injuries were.
“That doesn’t help in such moments if you have to manage the game; having leaders on the pitch helps,” he stated. We also need to take off, Casemiro.
That’s not very helpful. They are adept at handling pressure and bringing the victory across the finish line. We need to take them both off, but I’m not sure what Sunday holds in store for them yet.”
When asked directly if Varane will be ready for Liverpool’s visit, Ten Hag responded, “At this time, I’m not sure.” I’m powerless to assist.”
Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, and Anthony Martial are all out due to groin surgery, which has kept him from playing since December.
