Liverpool may be able to pay a release clause to get Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton this summer.
That’s what Sport in Spain says.
What’s new with Roberto De Zerbi now that Liverpool is showing an interest? Let’s examine this.
For £9 million, Liverpool can recruit Roberto De Zerbi.
The Italian actually has a €10 million (£9 million) release clause and a provision prohibiting him from leaving Brighton in the midst of the season, according to Sport.
The Seagulls are trying to extend De Zerbi’s contract, which ends in July 2026, to 2027 in order to raise the value of this provision to €15 million (£13 million).
But negotiations regarding a renewal have not gone well for Brighton, as Liverpool is thinking of replacing Jurgen Klopp with the Brescian.
Recently, Fabrizio Romano stated that Liverpool had internal discussions at Anfield on employing De Zerbi, who Levi Colwill referred to as “world class” after he established himself as one of Europe’s most gifted managers.
In his 56 Premier League games as Brighton’s manager, the 44-year-old has guided the Seagulls to 23 victories and advanced them to the UEFA Europa League Round of 16.
Xabi Alonso might be hired by Liverpool for free.
Liverpool is considering other managers than De Zerbi.
According to a French report by Foot Mercato, Liverpool has actually asked to hire Xabi Alonso. Interestingly, if the Spaniard ends up taking Klopp’s place this summer, Liverpool won’t have to pay Bayer Leverkusen a dime because the player’s contract with the Bundesliga team doesn’t include a release clause.
Chief Executive Officer of Bayer Leverkusen Fernando Carro acknowledged it, saying to talkSPORT, “A release clause for Alonso? No, one is not necessary. He knows we are a club that takes things seriously and we have a great rapport with him. If someone doesn’t want to stay, we won’t make them. Our goal is for him to be content with us so that staying will be his only request.
Along with Alonso and De Zerbi, Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP has also been mentioned, so be sure to keep a watch on this scenario.
