Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, appears to have poked fun at remarks made by Mauricio Pochettino after his team’s draw with Chelsea.
At the Etihad Stadium, the suspenseful encounter ended 1-1. Raheem Sterling gave Chelsea the early lead, but Rodri gave the home team a point in the closing minutes. As a result, City now trails Liverpool, the Premier League leaders, by four points.
Following the match, Pochettino told BBC Match of the Day how proud and pleased he was with Chelsea’s performance. Before declaring that City is the greatest football team in the world, the Argentinean expressed his satisfaction with the way the Blues performed, particularly in the first half of the match.
“I’m overjoyed. Pochettino remarked, “I told the players I feel so proud.” “We’ve started to establish a really positive atmosphere over the past three games. That is how we intend to assemble our staff. Today was a great chance to demonstrate that we are headed in the right direction. The early part of the performance was excellent. We gave up just one opportunity against a team like Manchester City, who are, in my opinion, the best team in the world.
“They make you go deep in the second half, but we had opportunities to score the second goal, and things could have turned out differently. It’s critical that the players understand how fiercely competitive football is and that suffering is a necessary part of getting to the next level.”
However, Guardiola gave a somewhat sarcastic response when he heard Pochettino’s remarks: “Good, congratulations.” “If he believes that, that is good for his team.”
Guardiola did concede that Chelsea presented a challenge. “We knew it [that Chelsea would be a challenge],” he stated. It was a worthwhile game. We had a fantastic second half of play. We weren’t at their level in the first half, but you have to play 90 minutes, not just one, to compete against those teams.”
Despite Brighton having a game in hand against Sheffield United on Sunday, Chelsea is still tenth in the standings, trailing the Seagulls on goal differential. When City plays their own game in hand against Brentford on Tuesday evening, they will no longer be able to top the table after being held by the Blues.
