With Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, and Darwin Nunez out due to injuries sustained during Saturday’s victory over Brentford, Liverpool’s list of absences is growing ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea; Liverpool might be without nine players when they play Luton on Wednesday.
Ahead of a critical stretch of games, Jurgen Klopp concedes that Liverpool “have problems” following their probable triple injury blow in Saturday’s 4-1 victory at Brentford.
Ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final at Wembley against Chelsea, the Premier League leaders had Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, and Darwin Nunez removed from action due to injuries at Brentford.
With nine injuries on their list, Liverpool now has games against Man City and Everton in the coming month in addition to their league match against Luton on Wednesday.
Jota’s injury (knee) seems to be the main reason for concern, although Jones (ankle) needed crutches to exit Brentford’s stadium. Nunez’s removal during the intermission was primarily a precautionary measure.
“We need to find out the total cost. After losing Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szobszlai, and Alisson to injuries in the previous week, Klopp stated, “We don’t know yet.”
“A knock landed above Curtis Jones’ ankle. It was unclear to him exactly what it was. Curtis would have played on at all costs, so the fact that he was unable to does something.
“The worst-looking is Diogo Jota. Although I didn’t see it again, I’d heard the photos [of the incident] weren’t very good. We must check that out.
“You can count the games coming up, so having more than one player per position would be helpful,” Klopp continued. We are unaware of the extent of our troubles. We’ll go for it as long as we have 11 players.”
With the opportunity to win the first trophy of the season next Sunday, Klopp did not let the visit of Luton go lost.
“We cannot think about the final, we have to think about Luton,” he stated. “After giving Luton our whole attention, we’ll turn our attention to the conclusion. We’ll see how we can play the next game after that.
