Arne Slot is under pressure to recruit Frenkie de Jong as his first Liverpool player after the midfielder was previously strongly linked to a move to Manchester United from Barcelona.
Arne Slot, the new manager of Liverpool, is already having trouble escaping parallels to Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United. Getting sucked into a long-running Frenkie de Jong transfer controversy would be a definite way to raise that tenfold.
Ten Hag pursued fellow countryman De Jong, with whom he had collaborated at Ajax, for nearly the whole of his first summer at Old Trafford. Barcelona, on the other hand, had to sell players. However, the player himself showed no signs of wanting to work with his old coach again, and Manchester United ultimately made an unexpected turnabout with Casemiro.
But after two summers, Slot is being pushed to make an attempt to sign De Jong to a Liverpool contract. And the person promoting the notion is a former Feyenoord player.
Kaj Ramsteijn stated in an interview with Voetbal Primeur that De Jong ought to be prepared to leave Barcelona at this point. He feels he would have a greater opportunity to contend for trophies if he were a member of Slot’s Liverpool:
He commanded, “Arne Slot to Liverpool, take Frenkie De Jong with you.” “I believe that would be a pleasant club for him.
“I genuinely want to see Frenkie compete for prizes because I believe he is that brilliant. Naturally, he won the title last year, but if Kylian Mbappé signs with Real Madrid in the summer of 2019…
Then, in the following five seasons, they will easily win the championship. especially in light of FC Barcelona’s financial circumstances.
“And I think the Premier League is absolutely amazing.” He is able to perform anywhere. After catching the ball, he turns aside and produces an excess.
The summer that Manchester United sought De Jong so hard, Liverpool was tepidly connected to him. With the exception of Arthur Melo’s disastrous deadline day loan move, no midfield move happened at all in the end.
But Slot will take over a revitalized midfield. After a long break, Liverpool completed a comprehensive reconstruction, bringing in Wataru Endō, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister.
