The announcement of Liverpool’s new manager is rapidly approaching, and it will be Michael Edwards’ largest early choice in his new job as FSG’s “CEO of football.” Arne Slot appears to have been chosen to succeed Jürgen Klopp.
The Feyenoord manager is generally seen as a slightly unexpected choice, but since the unbeaten Xabi Alonso declared he would be staying at Bayer Leverkusen, there hasn’t been a very obvious favorite to fill the role. Sporting manager Rúben Amorim was declared the front-runner after that information, but it now seems unlikely.
Liverpool lined up many other ducks before appointing the new member, including Edwards, who rejoined FSG after stepping down as sporting director in 2022. Since then, he has appointed Richard Hughes as the new sporting director, and it is believed that he is also considering making further hires.

“At this point, he’s asserting his authority and bringing in a player he believes can propel Liverpool forward. We’ve seen that the careers of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and Wenger at Arsenal have both been challenging, so we’re not sure how that will work out. Liverpool must strive to get that right because Klopp is a huge figure there.”
