It’s becoming more and more obvious that FC Barcelona will need to raise money by offloading some of its present players before they can add more players during the summer transfer window.
In this context, midfielder Frenkie de Jong is among the people who have been connected to leaving the Catalan team.
Barcelona has made the Dutchman an opportunity to extend his contract at a lesser salary; nevertheless, should he decline this offer, the Blaugranes will consider selling him in order to reduce their payroll.
According to other recent reports on the matter, Kylian Mbappe has chosen to leave Paris Saint-Germain, and Luis Enrique’s team will be looking to bolster itself in the wake of the winger’s departure. As a result, Paris Saint-Germain is interested in signing Frenkie de Jong this summer.
Should this deal go through, PSG will finally be able to acquire a player who they have desired for many years. PSG was among Barcelona’s most competitive suitors for De Jong’s signature in 2019, as Mundo Deportivo has pointed out, but the Catalans were eventually able to beat the Parisians to his signing.
Five years later, the stars are aligning once more to allow PSG to pursue the Dutchman. The Parisians will have plenty room in their salary budget now that Mbappe is gone to include De Jong in their lineup while continuing to pay the player’s wages from Barcelona.
Still, there are a lot of unknowns around this procedure. First off, given that his current deal expires in 2026, De Jong may choose to stay at Barcelona indefinitely, accepting the new offer or not.
In addition, he has alternative offers available to him in the event that he chooses to depart. In addition to Manchester United and Chelsea, who are rumored to be interested in the youngster, Tottenham has previously expressed interest in him.
