For FC Barcelona, this current season has been largely unsuccessful. By the end of the campaign, it appears like the Catalan giants will be devoid of silverware. But Barcelona has other concerns to cope with than the ones on the pitch.

The head coach position is the main concern that keeps bringing urgent care into the spotlight. Barça is now searching for a capable replacement for Xavi Hernandez, who abruptly announced his intention to quit the team at the end of the current campaign.

That capable substitute, according to AS, might turn out to be Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi. According to the article, he now has the full confidence and trust of Deco, the team’s director, and Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona. They view him as highly educated in terms of positional play methods and ideologies.

The Italian coach has taken Brighton to new heights with the team. Applauded by everybody for his team’s consistent ability to play out of the back successfully and efficiently, De Zerbi’s ideas blend in with Barcelona’s.

But there’s a financial obstacle to getting him to come to Barcelona. Barcelona will have to fulfill his €10 million release clause in order to acquire his services, as he is under contract with Brighton until 2026. The agents of the coach are eager to assist the Catalan club in their efforts to avoid having to pay this amount.

Indeed, not so long ago, they were having a meeting with some representatives from Barcelona. Although resolving Ronald Araujo’s contract was the primary goal of that conversation, there were rumors that De Zerbi’s potential transfer to Barcelona was also brought up.

There are currently just two main coaching choices available for careful consideration. When choosing who will finally replace Xavi for the upcoming season, the club is tossing up between De Zerbi and German coach Hansi Flick.
