Darwin Nunez, a striker for Liverpool, was visibly irritated after seeing Curtis Jones squander a fantastic chance to score during Sunday’s game at Anfield versus Crystal Palace.
Darwin Nunez was spotted stomping his seat angrily after Liverpool lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon due to a squandered opportunity.
The 24-year-old Uruguayan striker was included in Jurgen Klopp’s starting lineup for Palace’s visit. Palace led 1-0 at the half thanks to a brilliant goal from Eberechi Eze. However, he was taken off the field shortly before the hour mark as the Reds made some adjustments to bring the score back to even.
Nunez was forced to witness the final third of the match as Liverpool dominated the goal of the visitors. He was clearly frustrated by Curtis Jones’s missed opportunity to equalize after being placed through on goal.
Before the cameras switched back to the action, Nunez could be seen angrily booting one of the seats in the home dugout behind a stunned Klopp.
On social media, Liverpool supporters also responded angrily. One said, “Awful finishing from Curtis Jones,” while another said, “Conor Bradley has to stop starting games, Curtis Jones [has been] awful since his return from injury.”
Sadly, Liverpool lost badly and gave Arsenal and Manchester City the lead in the title fight since they were unable to produce a comeback in the second half.
Liverpool is now two points behind City and in third place following the outcome. With a victory over Aston Villa, Arsenal, the nearly men from last season, would return to the top of the table three points ahead of Klopp’s team.
Andy Robertson, a defender for Liverpool, acknowledged to Sky Sports following the game that he and his teammates were suffering as a result of their excessive wastefulness in front of goal.
“We have been punished in these games because that has been the story of the last few games,” the Scotland international stated. Right now, we are having trouble maintaining clean sheets. It won’t be many; I’m not sure how many we’ve had in the previous ten or fifteen games. That requires you to take some risks. Just like that.
“The boys in front of the goal need to improve.” However, as a collective defensive unit, the players in the back need to perform better. This is not very conducive to success. Today is really annoying. So many opportunities. We were playing badly in the first half, in my opinion, and they were ahead by more than 1-0. We had enough opportunities to win two or three games in the second half.”
