In a recent interview, Anthony Elanga was asked about his move from Manchester United to Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year-old left Old Trafford to join Nottingham Forest in a £15 million deal. Anthony Elanga, who joined United at the age of 13, hinted that Erik ten Hag was not the reason behind his decision to leave. The winger had his breakthrough season under interim manager Ralf Rangnick during the 2021/22 season.

Erik ten Hag subsequently restricted Elanga’s possibilities, which led to United accepting Forest’s summer transfer bid for the winger. His performance in a Garibaldi Red shirt was quickly demonstrated when he assisted Forest’s victory over United in December.

Elanga did not have resentment for Ten Hag, even though he might not have had many chances to perform at his best at Old Trafford. “I wouldn’t claim that [Ten Hag’s resignation was due to it]. What was most important to me was that I just wanted to play.

“You know, I’m young and I don’t want to spend the entire season on the bench. When you’re young, you want to play, you want to experiment, and you want to make mistakes,” he stated to Soccer News, a Dutch publication.

However, he wasn’t the reason I left. I gave myself more attention than other people.”

“Of course I also saw what he did at Ajax,” Elanga responded when asked if he planned to succeed under ten Hag, much as Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt did at Ajax. However, everything is different in England.

“Ryan Gravenberch, who currently plays for Liverpool, is one of the players he improved. However, I simply wanted to take a chance and go somewhere else, and I’m enjoying myself at Forest, so it was a wise choice.”
