Football writers evaluate the Premier League action from Sunday’s matches, which saw Manchester United defeat Luton 2-1 and Brighton thrash Sheffield United 5-0; Kobbie Mainoo excelled once more in place of Casemiro; and Sheffield United’s valiant attempt to avoid relegation was summed up by Mason Holgate’s careless red card.

At Luton, Manchester United rested two midfield players. One was eighteen, the other had won the Champions League four times. While the other appeared calm and collected, the other was unlucky to still be on the field at halftime.

You would think that Kobbie Mainoo would be the lucky player to remain on the field, but the adolescent’s skillful performance demonstrated to a teammate who is 13 years older than him how it’s done.

After halftime, United at Luton calmed down a tense match and held on for a victory thanks to Mainoo’s outstanding play. The midfield player outscored every other member of his United club by a wide margin with nine wins in the middle and defensive thirds of the field. On six of his seven attempts, he also managed to run past a midfielder on the other side.

Casemiro, on the other hand, was unable to win a single ball in the United defensive third or run past any of his opponents.

“It was too much for Casemiro,” but the “real deal” Mainoo had the “youthfulness and the presence” to handle it, as Jamie Redknapp stated following the game.

This Sunday’s away match against Luton might mark a midfield revolution for United.
