Sheffield United 3-1 Liverpool: Once again, Alexis Mac Allister is the hero!

Liverpool overcame Sheffield United 3-1 thanks in large part to a fantastic strike from Alexis Mac Allister, who extended his incredible run of form.

Following their early loss to Brighton, Liverpool came dangerously close to losing again in the next thirty-two seconds, requiring Caoimhin Kelleher to block James McAtee, a Man City loanee, at the far post.

But the Reds soon found their rhythm, with Mo Salah nearly scoring the first goal with a chip over Ivo Grbic. Balls out wide was their primary outlet early on.

Sheffield United’s frequent struggles were shortly explained by a blunder from Grbic, who kicked a clearance straight into the pressing Darwin Nunez, with the rebound going in for a 1-0 score.

By the same token, Liverpool made it clear why they are starting to be viewed as the favorites for the championship by missing a number of opportunities to increase their lead.

The home team had 83 percent of the possession at the break, but the score did not yet reflect that against a team who had let up 77 goals in their previous 29 league games.

At the beginning of the second half, Sheffield United outperformed Liverpool due to their lack of creativity, and Jurgen Klopp quickly resorted to his bench.

However, Gustavo Hamer headed the ball down and in via Conor Bradley to give the visitors an equalizer before he could substitute Andy Robertson and Harvey Elliott.

Liverpool felt additional pressure after drawing level with the lowest club in the league, and Sheffield United resorted to man-against-the-wall defense to stifle good opportunities.

Mac Allister, a serious candidate for player of the season, scored a spectacular goal to give the team the lead again. He raced onto a loose ball and unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top corner for 2-1.

In order to secure the three points and a return to the top, Cody Gakpo headed home Robertson’s exquisite cross from deep. There was still time for another.
